18.1 What is the direction of induced current in Lenz's law?
Answer: According to Lenz's Law, the direction of induced current is always such that it opposes the cause which produces it.

Answer: Slip rings are used in an A.C. generator to maintain continuous electrical contact with the rotating coil while allowing current to alternate naturally.

18.4 Why is the sky red at sunset?
Answer: During sunrise or sunset, sunlight travels through a longer path in the atmosphere. Much of the blue light is scattered out of the path, while the longer wavelengths, such as red and orange, scatter less. These colours dominate the sky near the horizon, giving it a reddish appearance.

18.5 What is a transformer and on what principle does it work?

Transformer: A transformer is a device used to increase or decrease the voltage in an alternating current (A.C.) circuit. It works without any electrical connection between its input and output coils.

Principle: A transformer works on the principle of electromagnetic induction. A changing magnetic field produced by the primary coil induces an e.m.f. in the secondary coil.
