What this scientific calculator does
This is a full scientific calculator that runs entirely in your browser. It handles the operations you need for Class 9 and 10 mathematics and physics: trigonometric functions (sin, cos, tan) with a DEG/RAD toggle, logarithms (log base 10 and ln natural), powers and roots, and the constants ฯ and e. It also provides a memory register (M+, MR, MC), an Ans key that reuses the last result, and a rolling history of your last 20 calculations. Nothing is sent to a server โ all evaluation happens locally, and the history lives only in your session.
Formulas and conventions used
The calculator follows the standard scientific notation used in Pakistani textbooks:
Variable definitions
- ฮธ โ the angle value you enter; in DEG mode it is interpreted as degrees, in RAD mode as radians.
- x โ any real number you enter as the argument to a function or the base of a power.
- n โ the exponent or root index; may be negative or fractional.
- ฯ โ the constant 3.14159265358979โฆ available from the ฯ key.
- e โ Euler's number, 2.71828182845905โฆ, available from the e key.
Worked examples
Example 1: sin(30ยฐ) in DEG mode
- Confirm the angle unit shows DEG.
- Press
sinโ enter30โ press)โ press=. - Expression:
sin(30). Result: 0.5. - Note: if you were in RAD mode, sin(30) โ โ0.988. The mode matters.
Example 2: logโโ(1000) + 2ยณ
- Press
logโ1000โ). - Press
+. - Press
2โ^โ3. - Press
=. Expression:log(1000)+2^3. Result: 3 + 8 = 11.
Example 3: Using Ans to continue a calculation
- Compute
5+3. Result: 8. The value is stored as Ans. - Press
AC. - Press
Ansโ*โ2โ=. - Expression:
Ans*2. Result: 16.
Example 4: Cube root via fractional exponent
- Press
8โ^โ(โ1โ/โ3โ). - Press
=. Expression:8^(1/3). Result: 2. - This works for any root:
x^(1/n)is the n-th root of x.
Common mistakes to avoid
- Wrong angle mode. The single most common error. If sin(30) gives โ โ0.988 instead of 0.5, you are in RAD mode. Check the DEG/RAD indicator before computing.
- Forgetting to close brackets.
sin(30+5will fail. Always match every(with a)before pressing=. - Assuming log means natural log. In this calculator (and in BISE textbooks),
logis base 10 andlnis base e. If you want log base 2, useln(x)/ln(2). - Negative base with fractional exponent.
(-8)^(1/3)returns an error because the real cube root of โ8 cannot be computed through the power function. Enter it as-(8^(1/3))instead. - Confusing M+ with MR. M+ adds to memory; MR recalls it. MC clears it. If your result looks wrong, check the memory badge at the top โ it shows the current stored value.
FAQ
Does this scientific calculator use degrees or radians?
Both. Use the DEG/RAD toggle above the keypad. DEG is the default and is what BISE Punjab students normally need for physics and maths. Switch to RAD when a formula uses ฯ-based angles.
How do I enter powers and roots?
Use the ^ key for powers, e.g. 2^10. Use the sqrt key for square roots, or type 8^(1/3) for a cube root. Powers are evaluated right to left, so 2^3^2 = 2^9 = 512.
What does the Ans key do?
Ans inserts the previous result into the current expression. After computing 5+3=8, pressing Ans then *2 gives 16. Memory keys M+ and MR work the same way but persist until you clear them.
Why does log mean log base 10 and not natural log?
This calculator follows the convention used in Pakistani textbooks: log is base 10 and ln is base e. If you need log base 2, use ln(x)/ln(2) or log(x)/log(2).
Is there a history of my previous calculations?
Yes, the last 20 results appear in the history panel. Click any history entry to reinsert that result into the current expression. History is kept only in your browser session and is never sent to any server.
Can I use this calculator for my BISE board exam practice?
Yes, for practice and homework. It performs the same operations as a standard scientific calculator. Note that board exams restrict which physical calculators you may bring, so check the current BISE Punjab instructions for the actual exam.
